If Richard and Maurice McDonald were still alive do you think they would be pleased with the direction their franchise took? I remember when fast food restaurants opened late in the morning before lunch and closed hours before midnight. Now it seems that whatever meal you want, whatever time of day you can drive up to the menu, place your order, drive to a window, pay, and get your meal handed to you in a matter of seconds. How convenient.
Not to be outdone by the competition, just about every chain has a sackful of items on their menu that they claim are "healthy." Let's get one thing straight- fast food is not in the class of health food. They may start with raw ingredients that are healthful, but the end product is not going to be healthy for you. Tasty maybe, but not healthy.
I'm not going to claim that I'm a diet saint and never eat any fast food. I enjoy pizza, fish tacos, and every once in awhile I'll have a couple of In 'n Out hamburgers, but I don't kid myself into believing it's anything more than a treat for the taste buds. I'm also not going to tell anyone who is in good health that does enjoy it every once in a while (in moderation, of course) to completely give it up. Deprivation can lead to over-consumption for some people. Now if you are keeping a close eye on what goes in your mouth and into your body don't be fooled into thinking you can hit the drive thru for breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner multiple times a week and successfully reach your goal, even if the menu items appear, or sound healthy. It may be convenient. It may be fast compared to a full service restaurant. It might be easier than preparing your own meal. But think about this, if you're pressed for time and hungry, the healthiest options are the quickest. You do know what I'm talking about right?
